Woodruff County official arrested after drunk driving

WOODRUFF COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - An employee with Woodruff County was arrested after police say he was drunk driving.

According to a Wynne Police Department incident report, approximately 2:51 a.m. Thursday, March 10 an officer on patrol noticed a car driving on Highway 64 with no headlights.

When the officer got behind the car, he noticed the vehicle had crossed the center line multiple times.

The report stated after the officer pulled the car over, John Bell, 46, of Augusta had very slurred speech and smelled like alcohol.

Bell later admitted that he had been drinking since 10 p.m. the previous night and after failing a field sobriety test, he was taken into custody at the Cross County jail.

While in custody, Bell refused a breathalyzer test but stated "this was death penalty. I know what I did, I don't blame him one bit. He did his job."

Bell was booked for driving while intoxicated, refusing a breath test, and driving left of center.
