BATESVILLE, AR (KAIT) - A shooting in Batesville Friday left one man hospitalized and another in jail after a fight over a woman.
According to documents from the Independence County Circuit Court, Batesville dispatch received a 911 call around 12:35 a.m. Friday about a man being shot in the 9000-block of Harrison Street.
Independence County Sheriff's Deputy Tim Cunningham arrived on scene and found Clinton Folks lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his upper chest.
Deputy Cunningham said that Folks told him "Daquan had shot him," according to the documents, and pointed to 21-year-old Daquan Orebo.
The witnesses and Orebo were taken to the sheriff's department for questioning.
Detective Zach Rawlins conducted an interview with Javanti Harrel-Haynesworth, who made the 911 call.
Harrel-Haynesworth said he, Daquan and one other person had traveled there from Tennessee Thursday.
He said the group drove to Newport to buy some alcohol for the night. At one point during the night, Folks got a rifle out and the group was taking turns shooting it.
A bit later, Folks apparently found Orebo kissing his wife in a bedroom. The two then began to fight.
Folks told investigators they struggled over the rifle and Orebo shot him.
Folks said he only remembered the rifle going off once, while Harrel-Haynesworth said he heard two shots.
Orebo refused to speak to detectives about the incident without his lawyer present.
He is still in custody at the Independence County Jail.
