POINSETT COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

In light of a recent Region 8 News story on the need of foster homes in Poinsett County, Christians 4 Kids, 2604 South Madison in Jonesboro, will host a sign-up event at their location.

Nichole Potts, recruitment coordinator for the organization, said she has gotten a lot of interest in fostering after the story first aired Tuesday night.

The organization will hold a sign-up event April 2nd at 2:00 p.m. at Christians 4 Kids.

Potts said of the 96 children in DHS custody in Poinsett County, only eight are placed in foster homes.

That leaves 88 children being placed in homes outside of the county.

Potts said this puts a strain on children.

“These kids don’t get to stay in their same schools,” Potts said. “Some don’t get to be with their siblings as well.”

She said she doesn't believe people do not have the heart to foster. Potts thinks they just do not know where to start.

“People aren't aware of the need,” Potts said. "I believe if we educate the public enough, then we will be able to engage the community in this huge need.”

Potts said there are several other counties in Region 8 that need foster homes as well.

She added that couples and singles are both eligible to foster.

Anyone interested in opening their home to foster children can contact Potts at Christians4Kids@gmail.com, or visit their Facebook page for more information.
