MO woman turns grocery store run into $50K

QULIN, MO (KAIT) - A southeast Missouri woman grabbed more than milk while making a run to the grocery store. She also picked up a winning lottery ticket.

A news release states Beth Grayson of Qulin picked up some Missouri Lottery Scratchers from K & K Corner Store, 13726 Highway 53 in Qulin on March 22.

She told lottery officials, "I went out to the car and scratched my ticket while I was sitting there and won $5. I decided to go back in and get a crossword. When I got home, I gave mom her tickets, and I started playing mine."

That is when Beth found she was the winner of $50,000.

"My husband was at work, so I had to call and tell him. He called me a liar and asked me why I was really calling," she laughingly told lottery officials.

The couple tells the Missouri Lottery they plan to put the prize money towards a down payment on their first home.

"We were already looking around, but this made it a reality. I think my kids will finally be able to have a dog, too," Beth said as part of the news release.
