JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Police Wednesday decided to drop charges against a Jonesboro man who was in jail after he reportedly fired shots into a ceiling.

Detective Justin Rolland said Joseph Seymour, 36, was put in jail for firing a .45 caliber handgun into the ceiling after an argument; however, the investigation revealed the Seymour did not violate the law.

Deputy Jeff Franks stated in a police report that he was responding to a call of a man shooting a weapon inside a home in the 5400-block of Craighead County Road 912.

Even though Seymour fired the shots, he didn't break the law, according to Rolland.

Four children were in the home at the time of the shooting, according to the initial report. The weapon and spent ammunition were collected at the scene.

Seymour has since been released from the jail.
