DONIPHAN, MO (KAIT) - The Doniphan-Ripley County Library received new grants for the kids' summer program.
Missouri Secretary of State Jason Kander announced Tuesday that the library will receive a $7,500 grant to promote summer reading programs.
The grants will be funded through the Library Services and Technology Act through the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services. The Institute serves as the primary source for the nation's 122,000 libraries and more than 17,500 museums.
"The summer months are great for relaxing and enjoying the warm weather, but it's also a good time for kids to learn to read for their enjoyment," Kander said. "I'm proud my office is able to once again provide programs that encourage Missouri students to continue to read and explore their creativity during the summer break."
So far, the Missouri State Library has distributed more than 120 grant applications, totaling $908,000.
