JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Due to severe flooding, many parts of the viewing area are under water as police work water rescues and close off roads. The National Weather Service declared a flash flood emergency earlier Wednesday night.
Police also said the police department has responded to 32 calls for stalled cars. Police have worked three water rescues out of cars.
According to Officer Jeremy Wheelis with the Jonesboro Police Department, many roads throughout Jonesboro are flooded and many vehicle rescues have taken place.
They have also received reports of water going into homes in certain areas.
Jonesboro police also said the following roads should be avoided due to flooding:
- Matthews Avenue
- Washington Avenue
- Huntington Avenue
- Highland Drive
- Fox Meadow Lane
- Harrisburg Road
- Wilkins Avenue
- Race Street
- Greensboro Road
Craighead County Sheriff Marty Boyd told Region 8 News that Highway 163 near Pete's Western Wear is closed due to high water.
Police urge everyone to stay at home and off of the roads until the waters recede.
