CASH, AR (KAIT) - Drivers have to alter course after a road was closed in Region 8.
According to Craighead County Dispatch, Highway 226 at Cash is closed.
Dispatch stated that traffic is being re-routed from Hwy. 226 to U.S. Highway 67, just south of Swifton.
The area has experienced traffic issues Thursday morning.
Two vehicles were submerged on that stretch of road at the bridge at Highway 349.
Dispatch said there were no injuries.
Once again, drivers are urged to take alternate routes if traveling on Hwy. 226 until it is reopened.
Region 8 News spoke with some neighbors in the area who said when heavy rain moves through, the area normally floods.
"We are kind of used to them closing off the end of the road on 226, but our yard has flooded at least four times in the past three years and it gets about knee deep out here sometimes," resident Stacey Barber said.
Barber said the area got some much water Wednesday night she and her family had to move their cars.
"We had to move our cars across the road to keep water from getting in them," Barber said.
Barber said thankfully water has never got inside her home, but it does cover the yard and carport.
She said dealing with that much water not only affects the road, but also her family's daily routine.
"It gets frustrating, very, very frustrating," Barber said. "Out here in the county you are in the middle of nothing and when it floods like that we have to schedule washing and drying clothes and little details like that which are things you normally take for granted and you are like okay here it goes again."
Barber said it would be nice if something could be done to help stop flooding in the area.
"I wish maybe they could dredge the ditches or something, just anything to stop this from happening," Barber said.
Several drivers said their routines were also affected today with the road closure.
