JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Residents along the Lawson Road area of Jonesboro got a closer look at the damage left behind after Wednesday's storms.
Christopher Montgomery, a homeowner on Lawson Road, said his wife saw the road collapse after an accident.
Montgomery said the road closure has caused a bit of a problem for commuters who may normally take that route to get to the Valley View area.
"For 30 years we've been living here and this is the first time I've ever seen any of this happen," Montgomery said. "In floods before, water would run over the road, but this time it took the road."
Chris Light, an engineer for the City of Jonesboro, said he hopes to begin work to repair the road by Thursday.
"We should equipment in this afternoon to start opening up the hole and getting things out of the way so we can get the pipe in and start installing it hopefully as early as tomorrow," Light said. "We'll back fill it and get the road opened back up."
