JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A former student of the Jonesboro School District was arrested for trespassing on campus, again.

Shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday, Jonesboro High School Resource Officer Brian Sawyer was called to the band room.

The school's athletic director told Sawyer he found former student Derrick Thomas inside the band room and escorted him out.

According to the report, Thomas, who has been criminally banned from the property, appeared to have been living in the band room.

"Assistant Principal Heath Roberts found a pallet in the floor where Thomas had been sleeping in the band room," Sawyer stated in his report.

The report also states that Thomas had been "using an American flag as a blanket."

Thomas told police he had taken some mushrooms around 11 p.m. Monday and "wasn't thinking too clearly."

Though he couldn't tell officers how he got into the building, JHS staff found one of the doors to the band room indoor facility was "malfunctioning and not locking like it should."

Thomas faces charges of criminal trespassing and public intoxication.

In late January, Thomas was arrested for criminal trespassing when he was found wandering inside JHS.

In mid-March, Thomas was reportedly sitting in the parking lot of Magic Touch Cleaners right across the street from the school, staring at it for hours.

Though he wasn't doing anything illegal at the time, the police report states that school administrators were pulled from their normal duties to keep an eye on Thomas.

In his report, Sawyer said he believes Thomas is "a school safety concern" and might need some kind of intervention for a controlled substance problem.
