Trumann Native to Launch Bid for Lieutenant Governor

APRIL 4, 2005 - Posted at 8:00 a.m. CST

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Jim Lagrone, the former president of the Arkansas State Baptist Association and a Region 8 native, said he plans to announce his Republican candidacy for lieutenant governor on Wednesday in Little Rock.

Lagrone, a Trumann High School graduate, is a 47-year-old church consultant.  He said he will make the announcement at 11 a.m. in the state Capitol rotunda.  Lagrone would face the only other announced candidate, state Senator Jim Holt of Springdale, in the Republican primary.

Current Lieutenant Governor Win Rockefeller is term-limited from seeking re-election and has said he would run for governor against former U.S. Congressman Asa Hutchinson.
