Kum & Go employee arrested for stealing from store

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police arrested a Kum & Go employee Saturday for stealing from the store.

 According to the incident report from the Jonesboro Police Department, Officer Susan Gray responded to a report of employee theft at the store, located at 2607 Red Wolf Blvd.

The store's district manager told police Shanique Smith, 21, was under investigation for theft.

The manager gave Officer Gray a handwritten statement from Smith. It said that Smith admitted to stealing cigarettes, food and lottery tickets from the store.

The admitted theft amounted to approximately $4,464, according to the report.

Smith also had nine warrants for her out of the city of Jonesboro.

She was taken to the Craighead County Detention Center and charged with theft greater than $1,000 but less than $5,000.

Police also cited her for contempt of court on nonpayment of fines and noncompliance with STOPlifting class.

Smith was given a $3,614 cash and $205 surety bond for the contempt of court charges. She was assigned a court date for Monday.

She is awaiting a probable cause hearing on the theft.
