Man breaks into home then leads deputies in chase

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - A man who sheriff's deputies said broke into a home and scared a young girl was later arrested when he tried to run from them.

Craighead County Sheriff's deputies were called to the 500-block of County Road 620 where they were told the suspect, Curtis Ashcraft, 26, of Jonesboro had gone into a person's home and scared a young girl before running off.

A deputy later spotted Ashcraft and told him to stop, but he didn't and the pursuit began.

"They attempted to make contact with him and a foot chase ensued after that," said Justin Rolland with the Craighead County Sheriff's Department. "They were able to take him into custody after a short foot pursuit, but he had already attempted to get into another residence."

Deputies later learned that a storage shed in the backyard of a house located in the 800-block of CR 620 had been broken into.

They also heard a loud noise coming from an ATV that Ashcraft had reportedly stolen and crashed into a chain link fence.

Ashcraft faces breaking and entering, criminal trespassing, and theft charges.

Ashcraft is also on parole and has warrants out for his arrest in Pocahontas.
