Man accused of threatening grandmother with box cutter

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Police arrested a Jonesboro man after they say he threatened his grandmother with a box cutter.

Officers arrested Andrier Rakale Newson, 20, on suspicion of aggravated assault on a family or household member.

According to the initial incident report, Newson became angry with his 54-year-old grandmother Monday afternoon when she refused to drive him to a store.

The two were sitting in a car parked in the 1600-block of Teresa when the victim said Newson "began to cuss her and call her names."

She said Newson then raised his hand as if he was going to hit her.

When they got out of the car, the victim said Newson came toward her "with a knife, threatening to cut her."

The woman's brother-in-law intervened and they were able to get the "folding box-cutting knife" away from Newson, the report stated.

Newson is being held in the Craighead County Detention Center awaiting a probable cause hearing.
