JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

The road work on Red Wolf Boulevard between Aggie Road and Alumni Boulevard finished up Tuesday.

According to a press release the city of Jonesboro, crews completed work to create a 200-foot deceleration lane for southbound traffic turning onto Arkansas State University’s campus.

Street crews had previously extended the left-turn lane for northbound traffic on Red Wolf Boulevard from 75 to 252 feet.

“The goal was to ease traffic congestion during special events at the ASU Convocation Center and football stadium,” Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin said. “The intersection had become dangerous, with left-turn traffic spilling over into thru lanes, and it has also been dangerous for police officers working the intersection on foot before and after events.”

Tippitt said workers also added a radius curve and about 20 feet of asphalt onto the entrance of Alumni Boulevard.

He said problems have been evident at that intersection for years and the new lanes should help alleviate those issues.

“This will give drivers room to turn left or right without disrupting thru traffic,” Tippitt said.
