JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Governor Asa Hutchinson has called a special legislative session to focus on an insurance initiative.
The Arkansas Legislature will meet for the special session Wednesday, focusing on Hutchinson's proposal to keep and rework the state's hybrid Medicaid expansion, Arkansas Works.
The Healthcare Legislative Taskforce recommended the program earlier this year.
Hutchinson proposed adding new restrictions to the hybrid, which uses federal funds to purchase private insurance for the poor.
The expansion was created three years ago as an alternative to expanding Medicaid under federal law.
