JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - The Jonesboro Police Department is investigating an early-morning robbery that happened at a gas station.
An incident report from JPD states officers were called to the Shell gas station, 1325 S. Caraway Rd., around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.
Officer Jason Bissett spoke with a clerk at the store who said he was mopping the floor when he felt "something hard like a barrel of a hand gun" pressing against his back.
The suspect then demanded cash and followed the clerk around the counter to get to the register.
According to the clerk, the suspect grabbed the cash from both registers and several packs of Newport cigarettes. The victim also said the man took his cell phone and ran away.
The owner of the station told police about $1,500 would have been in both registers.
A trail of coins was found leading the way the suspect ran out the north door, west through a parking lot, behind the car wash, over a concrete wall and into another parking lot near Hastings, the report states.
An unopened package of cigarettes was found near the car wash. A tire iron was also found between the car wash and a concrete wall.
The victim described the suspect as a black male wearing a bandana over his face with a "green towel over a possible gun."
Bissett looked at surveillance video and saw the suspect had entered the store dressed in dark clothing. The officer could not see a gun because it was covered with a towel.
The officer noted that it was possible the "gun" was a tire iron covered by the towel.
The incident report states the suspect may be in his 20s with long hair and medium build. He may also be six-feet-tall and weigh about 200 pounds.
