INDEPENDENCE COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

An Independence County couple has been charged following the death of their infant in 2015.

Court documents state Allison Lee Colvin, 21, and Wayne A. Riley, 20, both of Floral, were charged with felony manslaughter Monday.

A 15-day-old infant was taken to the White River Medical Center on May 23, 2015. The infant was then airlifted to Arkansas Children's Hospital due to their condition.

The child was pronounced dead later that day.

An autopsy found the baby died from blunt force trauma to the central abdomen, according to court documents. Internal bleeding was found due to a rupture in the spleen.

The death was ruled as a homicide.

Court documents further explain the infant was with parents, Colvin and Riley, when the injury likely occurred.

The pair were described as not being "cooperative" with investigators and only provided "inconsistent and conflicting accounts" of the events that happened on the morning of May 23, 2015.

Also, the couple made it known they were "not ready to be parents" and stated they "did not want a baby." This led to Colvin almost aborting the pregnancy, according to the documents.

Colvin and Riley are in the Independence County Jail, each on a $100,000 bond.
