PINE BLUFF (AGFC) – Jimmy Saypharath of Springdale received a much belated Christmas gift today at the drawing of the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission’s Catch It to Win It Boat Giveaway. His entry from a tagged trout caught on Christmas Eve 2015 was the lucky winner of a 16-foot Alumacraft boat, complete with four-stroke 15 horsepower Tohatsu outboard motor and Diamond City trailer, thanks to the Cycle and Marine Supercenter of Pine Bluff.
Maurice Jackson, Family and Community Fishing Program Coordinator for the AGFC, said he’s excited that a tagged trout was responsible for this year’s winner.
“The first two boats we gave away through this promotion were strictly for people who signed up at a nature center,” Jackson said. “This year, we added the Family and Community Fishing Program, but only 100 of the entries came through that route, the other 5,000 or so were from nature center entries.”
Every angler who turned in a tag from a trout caught at a FCFP pond this winter received a small prize package, such as a rod-and-reel combo or tackle pack. The addition of the boat drawing just added a little something extra to motivate people and get them to try fishing at one of these locations.
“I really want to thank the staff of Cycle and Marine Supercenter of Pine Bluff for sponsoring this event for a third year in a row,” Jackson said. “They’ve really shown their commitment to getting more people on the water by coordinating these incredible donations of boats.”
