WEST PLAINS, MO (KAIT) -

A man known for giving hugs at work is without a job, and many in his community are rallying behind him.

The ABC affiliate in Springfield, MO, reported Frank Swanson was fired from the West Plains Walmart he had worked at for nearly 20 years.

Some community members believe Swanson was fired because of the hugs, but Walmart stated it was for inaccurate price matching.

Swanson, however, said he could back up his price matching with the competitors’ ads.

“I can't believe they were firing me because I was doing what Walmart said it does, beat competitors’ ads or match them,” Swanson said.

The termination has sparked the “Hugs for Frank” campaign including the Twitter hashtag; #teamfrank.

As for another job, Swanson said he has had two interviews already.
