We've all heard the term: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."
There's lots of talk these days about things that would improve the already fantastic quality of life here in Region 8. Like art, they're all subjective and based on people's preferences and opinions.
This week, one project got my attention. Jonesboro Mayor Harold Perrin and Police Chief Rick Elliott announced a new firing range on Moore Road.
According to the mayor and police chief, the public will have access to everything. People can shoot guns, practice archery, trap shoot, they'll even have a fishing pond. The cost is around $7 million and the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission has agreed to cover 75% of the cost. The city still has to come up with around $1.75 million.
People from cities all across Region 8 will benefit from such a facility.
Now if we can get a dog park, finish idling construction projects, fix our roads, and figure out what's going to happen with two convention centers, we'll have all the answers when it comes to quality of life.
Or will we? It's in the eye of the beholder.
Understanding that everyone wants something different, having conversations about it and letting our elected officials know what we want, will go a long way to making this A Better Region 8.
