Police: Caller pretending to be from IRS demands money

CARUTHERSVILLE, MO (KAIT) - Some Missouri residents said they are receiving calls from someone pretending to be from the IRS.

According to a news release by the Caruthersville Police Department, people living in Caruthersville say the person behind those calls is demanding money.

Caruthersville police said other law enforcement agencies in Southeast Missouri are also hearing complaints about this.

Police Chief Tony Jones wants people receiving these calls to hang up immediately.

He also suggests victims to report the incident to the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration and your local law enforcement agency.
