JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

A Craighead County District Court judge found probable cause Friday to charge a Jonesboro man with fourth-degree sexual assault.

According to court documents, 59-year-old Doug Merritt is accused of fondling a young girl and exposing his genitals to her.

The child told investigators Merritt had exposed himself to her “several times.”

During an interview with detectives on Friday, Merritt reportedly admitted to fondling the girl and exposing himself.

“Merritt admitted to telling [the child] to touch his penis after exposing himself to her,” the court documents stated.

Following the interview, police arrested Merritt and took him to the Craighead County Detention Center.

If convicted of the charge, he could be fined as much as $10,000 and receive up to 6 years in prison.
