JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - North Jonesboro could see some significant growth soon.
Next week, the Jonesboro Metropolitan Area Planning Commission will consider site plans for three residential developments.
The potential projects are located along North Patrick Street at Daybreak Drive.
If each site plan is approved, it could mean 100 new, single-family homes and more than 20 duplexes on that road.
The area was rezoned in 2015. During rezoning hearings, the North Jonesboro Neighborhood Initiative supported the change.
"We worked really hard on this project and I'm really glad to see that it's going to take place," Ruby McKinley told Region 8 News.
McKinley, who served as NJNI chairperson last year, said she's glad they were able to help make this possible.
"You have to be willing to do that. You have to be willing to stand up and speak out and that's what we did," McKinley said. "It takes a long time to convince people that there's certain areas in this city that need help. North Jonesboro was our area."
The three developments are called Ridge Estates, Emerald Village and Briarwood Estates.
According to an initial staff summary for Emerald Village and Briarwood Estates, the developments are strictly for low-income and elderly individuals.
