Woman, child killed on Friday in Ripley Co. house fire

RIPLEY COUNTY, MO (KAIT) -

Officials with the Ripley County Sheriff's Office say two people are dead after a house fire in Ripley County, Missouri on Friday.

At about 4 p.m. the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office received a call regarding a structure fire.

At the scene, deputies contacted Michael Payne, who had obvious injuries and he stated that his wife, Valerie and his child Eli were still in the home.

Both Valerie and Eli were pronounced dead at 5:15 p.m.

Michael was taken to Poplar Bluff Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Autopsies are scheduled for Sunday, April 10, at the Parkland Health Webber Road Hospital in Farmington, Mo.

Multiple fire departments responded to the scene, led by Current River Fire Department.

Investigating the fire will be the Ripley County Sheriff’s Office, Ripley County Coroner’s Office and the Missouri State Fire Marshall.
