Storms tear through southern Arkansas

LITTLE ROCK, AR (KAIT/KATV) - Even though the rain has moved out of Region 8, some parts of Arkansas are still on the lookout for severe weather.

According to Little Rock station KATV Channel 7 News, storms moved across southeast Arkansas on Monday, bringing damaging winds and hail.

Severe thunderstorm warnings were issued throughout several counties including Grant, Hot Springs, and Saline.

According to Meteorologist Todd Yakoubian, they received photos from residents of Texarkana and Magnolia of uprooted trees, damaged buildings, and large-sized hail.

2,300 people near Malvern, Hensley, and Redfield lost power earlier today.

In El Dorado, lightning struck Murmil Heights Baptist Church, setting it and two nearby homes on fire.

As of Monday afternoon, much of southern Arkansas remained under a severe thunderstorm watch, with an enhanced threat of severe weather for southwest Arkansas.
