County addresses mental illness in justice system

CRAIGHEAD COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Craighead County hosted a mental-health training program Monday to help find ways to identify and provide services to those who enter the criminal justice system with mental illness.

The county applied for the training through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration GAINS Center.

The training helps provide collaboration between the county drug courts, mental health court, Veterans Diversion Program, and the DWI court.

The county hopes through this workshop to better identify and respond to the needs of adults with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse disorders who end up in jail.

The Sequential Intercept Mapping Workshop continues Tuesday from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Craighead County Health Department Suite A Conference Room, 611 East Washington Avenue.

For more information about this workshop, call (870) 972-4979.
