RANDOLPH COUNTY, AR (KAIT) -

A highway in Randolph County was closed late Monday night after a helicopter broke down while responding to a car crash.

According to Randolph County Sheriff Gary Tribble, two women were driving by Eleven Point River on Highway 62 around 10:30 p.m. when the driver swerved to miss an animal crossing the road.

That’s when she drove off into a ditch and rolled over.

A helicopter was dispatched to take one of the women to the hospital for her injuries.

There was an issue with the helicopter, though, and it could not lift off.

Both women had to be taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital.

The helicopter remained broken down in the westbound lane until a mechanic could arrive to fix it.

After nearly two hours, the mechanic got the helicopter working and the highway opened back up around 12:15 a.m.

The identities of the two women and the extent of their injuries are unknown at this time.
