A-State Men’s Golf breaks school record with fifth outright championship

Broken Arrow, OK (A-State) – The Arkansas State men's golf team won the ORU Shootout Tuesday at the Forest Ridge Country Club and, in the process, broke the school record for tournament championships in a season with its fifth outright title.

The Red Wolves have now finished runner-up or better in eight of their 11 tournaments this season and will take a 116-21-2 record into the Sun Belt Conference Championships, set for April 24-27 at the Raven Golf Club at Sandestin.

The Red Wolves began play yesterday with an opening-round 294 and followed with a 289 to give them a three-stroke advantage over Central Arkansas.  A-State posted a final-round 293 today, four strokes lower than UCA's score, to hold off the Bears with an 876 total.

All six competing A-State golfers placed among the top 27 leaders in the 11-team field, including Oswin Schlenkrich in third place with a combined 215 (71-70-74).  Napier joined him in the top-10, finishing sixth with a 219 (73-75-71).

Also competing for the Red Wolves, Cameron McRae and Joel Wendin both shot a 225 to finish tied for 16th place.  Seth Garner placed tied for 20th with a 226 and Andrew Huseman tied for 27th with a 228.  McRae competed as an individual.
