Inmates help with Paragould cleanup efforts

Mississippi County Correctional Clean Up

PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - Mississippi County Correctional inmates helped kick off Paragould's annual cleanup week.

They worked along the 412 bypass off Highway 49 Wednesday.

Jerry Cocker, chairman of the cleanup committee, said the inmates play a big role in their cleanup efforts.

"It's a great opportunity for them," Cocker said. "They are the focal point because they draw extra attention to our efforts. It's also a great opportunity for them."

Cocker thanked the inmates for their time.

Terry Treadway, one of the inmates' guard, said the hard workers themselves felt the appreciation too.

"Paragould has been very good to us and to the inmates," Treadway said. "They serve them lunch and everything and make them feel welcome and appreciated for what they do."

Cocker said several volunteers will work throughout the week to clean up around the community.

"Saturday we will have local volunteers who will clean in different areas," Cocker said. "When people drive into Paragould, it is our objective for them to see a clean city."
