KENNETT, MO (KAIT) - The trash service in Kennett suddenly stopped trash pickup and closed Friday, April 1.
Now, a company called "Friendly Waste Management" has taken on more than 2,000 of their previous customers in a week.
John Wheeler, owner of Friendly Waste Management, said the sudden increase in several new customers has caused quite the stir.
Wheeler said his new customers had been left without service for days due to the closure of their previous provider.
He also said they are working tirelessly to get new routes in place.
This had put trash routes behind for existing customers for about a day because they are waiting on additional equipment to arrive.
Baretta McClish, a new customer of Friendly Waste, said his trashed piled up for days until Friendly Waste stepped in.
"Somebody came to pick the trash can up and I had another trash can, a green one now," said McClish. "They really stepped in and did a good job when I felt like I was getting the runaround from the other company."
Wheeler said he apologizes for the delay in trash pickup.
He did not expect the sudden increase in customers in just one week.
Wheeler said they have enough staff to operate but they are just waiting on the new equipment to arrive.
He plans to have the trash pickup schedule back to normal as early as next week.
