RANDOLPH COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - The Randolph County Quorum Court approved a work-release program at their meeting Thursday night.
According to County Judge David Jansen, the program is a partnership with the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department and the sheriff's department.
He said AHTD will pay for jail inmates to clean up state highways.
Jansen told Region 8 News the money made from the program will help offset the cost of pay for sheriff's department employee's.
He added a new pilot program from the Association of Arkansas Counties was also approved at the meeting.
The program will set up a way to collect delinquent circuit court fines.
According to Jansen, Randolph County was asked to be a part of the pilot program.
Jansen also said the chairlift at the county courthouse is operational.
