Police: Suspect passed counterfeit bills at multiple businesses

THAYER, MO (KAIT) -

Police arrested a man on charges of passing counterfeit $100 bills at multiple businesses in southeast Missouri and north central Arkansas.

According to a probable cause statement from Thayer Municipal Court, Stuart Thurber is believed to have used counterfeit bills to purchase items at Town & Country and Walmart in Thayer.

During the investigation, Sergeant Luke Martin with the Thayer Police Department stated that Southern Bank received 7 counterfeit $100 bills used at the two businesses.

Surveillance video showed a man giving the bills to a clerk at Walmart and captured images of the vehicle he was driving.

Thurber was arrested by the Mountain View Police Department in Arkansas at Walmart in connection to the investigation.

Thurber is in the Howell County Jail on the charges and a judge gave him a $1 million bond.
