WALNUT RIDGE, AR (KAIT) -

A group at Williams Baptist College spent their Saturday afternoon working to preserve local history right outside their gates.

The Bancroft Society is a group of students at the college with a passion for history.

They noticed a need for some cleanup at the Mt. Zion Cemetery, which is close to the college, and decided to take action.

“It's part of our community. I mean, you see part of your community in disrepair you want to fix it as much as you can,” said Davis Fetzer, a volunteer. “Then it's also preserving history, it's kind of what our society is about.”

Fetzer also said they expected to see about 20 volunteers to help scrub dirt from the headstones.

He explained what they did Saturday did not harm the stones but cleaned them up.
