JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

St. Bernards Medical Center hosted its 9th annual Health and Fitness Expo at the A-State Convocation Center Saturday and Sunday.

Sunday’s events were geared towards families and student athletes in Craighead County.

Dr. Devi Nair, chairwoman of the event, said more than 100 booths were set up so guests could interact one-on-one with physicians.

Nair said one of the main events held Sunday was the free physicals for student athletes.

They also offered free electrocardiograms for 9-12 grade athletes.

“The Expo is probably the only place they will get this opportunity,” Nair said. “There are a lot of cardiac problems that can only be picked up on the electrocardiogram that can cause cardiac arrest during sports,”

Courtney Tucker, a 12-year-old cheerleader, is aware of the dangers of not getting her annual physical.

She said it is important to her to keep health her number one priority.

“I think we need to do this for the sake of us learning about how the body works and what's wrong with our bodies,” Tucker said.

If you missed out this year, you can attend the event next year scheduled April 22-23.
