Harding's Peyton Mills Named GAC Player of the Week

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Great American Conference announced the league's Players of the Week for the next-to-last week of the 2016 softball regular season. Harding's Peyton Mills took home her first Player of the Week award on the year, while Arkansas Tech's Jalissa Gum garnered the Pitcher of the Week accolade for the second consecutive week and fifth overall on the season, the conference office announced on Monday.

GAC SOFTBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK - Peyton Mills, Harding, OF, Fr., Rockwall, Texas

Mills led Harding's offense to a split at No. 7 Arkansas Tech and a four-game sweep at Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Rockwall, Texas native batted .478 with a weekend-best 13 RBIs and slugged 1.043 on the week. Mills launched her seventh, eighth, ninth, and 10th home runs on the year too.

GAC SOFTBALL PITCHER OF THE WEEK - Jalissa Gum, Arkansas Tech, RHP/UTL, Jr., Red Rock, Oklahoma

Gum factored in three of the No. 7 Golden Suns' victories. She opened by not allowing an earned run in 6.0 innings of work vs Harding. At Southwestern Oklahoma State, Gum pitched 4.0 innings of one-hit softball for her second win. Later, Gum came on in relief, tossing 2.2 perfect innings of en route to her first save.

- Miranda Garza, So., 1B/DH, Oklahoma Baptist (Batted 8-for-20; four of her hits were extra-bases)

- Brooke Goad, So., OF, Southern Arkansas (Slugged .938 with three home runs; walked 10 times)

- Kambri Hill, Sr., CF, Arkansas Tech (Scored six runs; hit .538; stole three bases; hit her fifth HR of season)

- Kelly Powell, So., CF, Ouachita (Stole weekend-high six bases; recorded 10 hits and scored five runs)

- Courtney Riddle, Sr., OF, Southeastern Oklahoma State (Hit .600 with a pair of RBIs; hit one double)

- Jordynn VanPelt, Sr. OF, East Central (Batted 8-for-12; recorded three extra-base hits; slugged 1.083)


- Kaylee Garner, Jr., RHP, Southern Arkansas (Won three games; struck out 18 batters in 17.2 IP)

Hannah Johnson, Jr. RHP, Harding (Won three games, including giving No. 7 ATU a 4-1 home loss)

- Lacey Paulk, Sr., RHP, East Central (Tossed a complete-game, two-hitter in her last home outing)

- Michelle Sorensen, RHP, So., Henderson State (Registered 1.29 ERA on the week; recorded 22 Ks)
