BLACK ROCK, AR (KAIT) -

Black Rock police are investigating an armed robbery.

According to Black Rock Police Chief Daniel Hill, the robbery happened around 3:45 Tuesday morning at the Kum & Go gas station and convenience store, 3430 U.S. Highway 63.

Hill said the male suspect entered the store with a small machine gun assault rifle and ordered the cashier to empty the register.

Hill said the cashier complied and the suspect ran away.

Teri Sykes works in the restaurant across the street and said this is something that she's never seen before.

"We were very surprised when they told us what had happened," Sykes said. "We're a small little community, nothing has ever happened as long as I've lived here, you know, and I'm here twenty-something years now. It's crazy."

No one was hurt, but Hill said they are following a number of leads and gathering evidence in the case.

An Arkansas State Police investigator is also working this case.
