JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) -

Jonesboro police say a suspect who entered several cars and stole $480 will not face charges.

That’s because they say the suspect is 6 years old.

The theft occurred around 12:30 p.m. Monday in the 1800-block of East Johnson Avenue, according to the initial incident report.

A woman told police someone had entered her SUV and stolen $480.

The victim told police she had seen the unnamed 6-year-old suspect opening several vehicles in the area and rummaging through the property.

A neighbor said he had also seen the boy opening vehicles and had told him to stop, the report stated.

When questioned by the officer, the child’s guardians reportedly said it was “likely” he had gone through the cars, but they had no knowledge of any stolen money or property.

The officer advised the victim that due to the suspect’s age, prosecution was not possible under Arkansas law.

The case has been forwarded to the Families in Need of Services (FINS) for possible intervention.
