GR8 Job: BIC journalism students bring home several awards

MONETTE, AR (KAIT) -

The Buffalo Island Central newspaper and yearbook staffs brought home several awards from the Arkansas Scholastic Press Association this week in Hot Springs.

The group of eight students won the following awards:

Superior and best of ASPA newspaper multimedia package

Superior and best of ASPA online newspaper blog

Best of ASPA online newspaper sports package

Superior and best of ASPA newspaper news story

Superior newspaper feature story

Superior newspaper personality profile

Superior newspaper sports news story

Superior newspaper sports feature

Superior and best of ASPA newspaper news photo

Superior and best of ASPA newspaper feature photo

Superior and best of ASPA newspaper photo essay

The BIC newspaper, the Hoof Prints, also won the All-Arkansas award. It is the first time BIC has won that award.

Camden Metheny was named newspaper editor of the year and Shyla Clayton won photojournalist of the year.

Tracey Thompson has been the newspaper’s advisor for several years and this is her last at Buffalo Island Central.

In honor of her last successful competition, the group arrived home in a limousine escorted by local police. They were welcomed back to the school by supporters.
