JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - Construction on a mountain bike trailhead at Craighead Forest Park won't be completed on the original deadline.
At a city council meeting Tuesday, the Jonesboro City Council approved a resolution allowing Mayor Harold Perrin to sign a no-cost extension for the grant helping to fund the project.
The project is funded through a 50-50 grant with the Arkansas Parks and Tourism Department.
The $35,000 grant expires May 1.
According to the resolution, the new mountain bike trailhead was expected to be done on May 1.
The resolution states the city had "unforeseen events" occur that prohibited the completion.
Jonesboro Parks Director Wixson Huffstetler told Region 8 News that the original design for the trailhead came in over budget.
Work is now underway on a new design.
The grant extension is good through December 31, 2016.
