JONESBORO-- Four region eight physicians are named among Arkansas Times' Best Doctors.

Gastroenterologist Matt Garner is a Jonesboro native who says medicine is in his genes.

He says it takes a special person to do his job.

Dr. Matt Garner says, "It's not like I'm a dermatologist or a cosmetic surgeon. I'm looking at the backside a lot."

Dr. Garner says he originally tried carpentry to make a living, but he could never deny his knack for diagnosis.

"People come up and they're like, I've got this thing right here and I'm like, oh yes, of course. You know I feel like Chief Inspector Kleseau," Garner says.

He says the key to being named among the Best Doctors' is a balancing act.

"You gotta be what your family needs you to be and you've got to be what your patients need you to be. It's a dual role because when I come home I'm just dad or I'm just husband," Garner says.

But Dr. Garner isn't the only family man at the Clopton Clinic.

Canadian, Oncologist Marc Monte says he always dreamed of becoming a hockey player, but his love for Biology encouraged his passion for medicine.

Dr. Monte says, "I'm just happy that what I'm doing is being recognized and people seem to be happy with me."

Dr. Monte describes himself as busy but happy. He says working with cancer patients is a humbling experience.

"I've learned a lot in this field. Hopefully I'll become a better man," Monte says.

Cardiologist Roger Hill and Pulmonologist Jeff Cohen, both of Jonesboro, were also named to the list.
