Apartment fire determined to be arson

LAKE CITY, AR (KAIT) - An apartment fire in Lake City has been ruled an arson.

According to the Craighead County Sheriff's Department, the fire is being investigated as arson.

No arrests have been made as the investigation continues.

Investigation into the fire began April 21 as the Lake City Fire Department was called out to an apartment complex on Oak and Cross Street.

On that day, Fire Chief Ron Nunnally told Region 8 News when fire crews arrived on the scene, it was fully involved and smoke was pouring out of the attic. Smoke eventually filled the other units.

The northern apartment was a complete loss while the other two apartments sustained smoke damage.

After nearly falling through the roof of the complex, Nunnally said his crews had to take another method of action to contain the blaze.

We left one up there to cut the hole and put water in it, Nunnally said. Then, we went in from the bottom and pulled the ceiling out and thats how we attacked the fire from that end. The roof was really too soft for us to see where the fire was and stand on it.

Nunnally said no injuries were reported.
