JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - A workshop on parent safety was held at the Microsociety Magnet School in Jonesboro Thursday night.
The workshop, called "Parents: Our Superheroes" was the first of its kind for the school.
It was meant to help parents get involved with their students.
The idea for the meeting came from discussion the school staff had with students and parents about not feeling safe in their own neighborhoods.
Parents attending the workshop got tips on how to answer questions their children may have about crime or safety in the area.
Parent Margot Hilderbran said she did have some concerns about answering those tough questions.
"I'm just worried about if they do come with come questions, how to approach those questions the proper way," Hilderbran said. "Because you never know as a parent what's the right way or wrong way to advise them what to do."
Principal of the Microsociety Magnet School Misty Doyle believes the time to save their students is now.
Representatives from Jonesboro police were at the workshop to give parents information on warning signs and how to protect students.
