Proposal to drive ATVs on streets turned down

CHEROKEE VILLAGE, AR (KAIT) - A small group of people in Cherokee Village who wanted to drive all-terrain vehicles on city streets took their case to the city council Thursday.

The problem for them, though, is that it is against state statute to use ATVs on city streets.

Cherokee Village Mayor Russ Stokes said the proposal was made at the meeting, but the city attorney quickly notified the citizens that it was illegal.

Stokes did say he would request an opinion from the Arkansas Attorney General on the issue just to make sure nothing has changed.
