LITTLE ROCK, AR - State legislators are trying to wrap up their session that began three months ago. The Senate Education Committee endorsed an overall public school-funding formula and it goes to the full Senate.
The proposed formula would distribute $3.3 billion in state aid to the school districts over the next two years. But it doesn't make any provisions for increasing minimum aid from the $5,400 per student set in a special session last year.
The omission is drawing opposition from school administrators and school boards, and a strong rebuke from a lawyer who says the school-funding issue could end up back in court.
