RECTOR, AR - Police in Rector are busy today investigating a shooting accident last night which claimed the life of a 5-year-old girl.

According to Rector Police Chief Tommy Baker, officers were called to a residence at 1011 South Fordyce Street at approximately 8:15 p.m. Upon arrival, police found Christina McDonald dead of a gunshot wound to the head. Baker said police believe she may have been shot by an 11-year-old boy who was one of three juveniles at the residence when police arrived. Baker said one adult was also present at the home.

Around noon time, the eleven year old boy was taken to the police station. While there police interviewed him and were supposed to interview the other witnesses as well. This information along with Christina’s autopsy report will then be handed over to area prosecutors. These prosecutors will decide if they will then go forward with a criminal case. Baker says it could be weeks before anything more is known.

Officials told K8 News that McDonald had recently moved into the Missouri Bootheel after living in Rector. She even attended Rector Elementary School. The family describes her as a sweet girl with a great attitude.

Baker now says authorities believe the shooting may have been accidental in nature.
