Another Region 8 county considers conceal carry in courthouse

MISSISSIPPI COUNTY, AR (KAIT) - Mississippi County could be the next Region 8 county to allow people to conceal carry in the courthouse.

Cross County approved the ordinance earlier this year.

According to minutes from the fire, police and safety committee in Mississippi County, Thursday, Chairman Ken Kennemore presented the ordinance to the council.

The ordinance would allow courthouse employees to conceal carry weapons inside the courthouse.

Sheriff Dale Cook told the committee he went over the ordinance, and had no problem.

Cook said the only place weapons would not be allowed would be in the courtroom, unless a judge gave permission.

Justice Michael White said he can understand why people would like to carry weapons in the courthouse for extra security.

The motion passed unanimously in the committee, and will now go to the full Quorum Court for consideration in May.
