Jonesboro officials investigate Saturday morning arson

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) - After thorough investigation, the Jonesboro Fire Department said a man's carport was deliberately set on fire early Saturday.

It happened in the 1000-block of Oakdale shortly after 5 a.m.

Just an hour before then, police were called to the same home.

The victim told police his estranged wife tried to get inside his house.

The report stated she did not live in the home, have clothes there, or have access.

At the man's request, police "criminally banned her from coming back."

One hour later "heavy fire" was coming from the carport of the house, according to the report.

The man told police he believed his wife was responsible for setting fire to the property.

He also told police she had a long history of "domestic issues" toward him.

Police do not know if the estranged wife is linked to the arson.

The fire is still under investigation.
