LAKE CITY, AR (KAIT) - An 11-year-old boy faces a felony charge after police said he stole a truck and took it for a joyride.
According to Justin Rolland with the Craighead County Sheriff's Office, a man called dispatch Sunday and said he saw a reckless driver headed from Waldenburg to Jonesboro in a stolen pickup truck.
The caller told dispatch he made contact with the driver and thought he was 18 years old.
The sheriff's department found out the vehicle, a 2015 Ford XLT valued at $30,000, was stolen from a man in Lake City.
Poinsett County sheriff's deputies found the truck just outside of Weiner in a rice field.
Monday, a woman called Lake City police saying her 11-year-old son went missing the night before and she was concerned over how he got home.
After interviewing with police, the boy admitted to taking the truck.
He said he got mad and went to Lake City and began looking in vehicles to find one with keys left inside.
He took the truck and started driving it to Augusta, but ran off into a ditch.
Rolland said because the truck is worth over $25,000, the boy will face a felony charge.
The case was turned over to the juvenile court system.
The boy was released to his mother and is expected in court May 18.
Both the Lake City Police Department and the Craighead County Sheriff's Office assisted in this investigation.
