PARAGOULD, AR (KAIT) - The Paragould City Council met Monday night to discuss the purchase of land located next to a lot that was donated to the city with the goal to eventually build a new E-911 Dispatch Center.
The extra piece of land is next to a donated lot located on Southpointe Drive and will cost the city $37,500.
The council agreed to not only accept the donated property, but also go through the process of making that purchase a reality.
"What we are looking in the future is moving our dispatch center a mile away from the police department and we are looking in the future to move it away from here so that it could always be open no matter what happens," said Mayor Mike Gaskill.
Mayor Gaskill said the new location would move the dispatch center away from the railroad tracks keeping dispatch out of the danger zone if there was ever a derailment with hazardous materials.
The next step is surveying the land and drawing up plans.
